About rehab

What is a physiatrist?

A physiatrist is a doctor who specialises in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. They diagnose and treat problems with muscles, joints, nerves and the spine, and lead your rehab plan with physiotherapists and other therapists. The aim is less pain and more of the movement and independence you need for daily life.

What is the difference between a physiatrist and a physiotherapist?

A physiatrist is a medical doctor. Dr. Dharshan diagnoses the cause of pain or weakness, orders and reads scans, prescribes medicines, does image-guided procedures when needed and leads the rehab plan. Physiotherapists are therapists who deliver much of the exercise and hands-on treatment. The two work together.

What is physical medicine and rehabilitation?

It is the medical specialty that treats pain and helps people regain movement and independence after illness, injury or surgery. It covers the spine, joints, muscles, nerves and the brain, and works through exercise, therapy, medicines, aids and procedures.

How long does rehab take?

It depends on the problem. A sprain may need a few weeks; recovery after a stroke or spinal cord injury continues for months. Your goals and review dates are set at the first consultation so you can see progress.

Booking and visits

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. Bring any scans, reports or hospital discharge summary to a clinic visit, or share them before a video consult, so the doctor can see the full picture.

How do I book?

Online, by phone or on WhatsApp at +91 79048 42576.

What should I bring?

Scans, reports, discharge summary, medicines and any walking aids.

Video consults

Can rehab start with a video consult?

Yes, for many problems. The doctor reviews your reports, watches you move on camera and sets a first plan with home exercises. If you need an in-person examination or a procedure, the doctor will tell you.

Can I get a prescription by video?

The doctor can prescribe some medicines on a video consult, within India's Telemedicine Practice Guidelines 2020. Some medicines cannot be prescribed online. Your prescription is sent to you digitally after the call.

Treatment

Is every pain treated with an injection?

No. Most plans start with exercise, posture advice and medicines. Image-guided injections or nerve blocks are used only when the doctor finds them suitable after examining you, and every option is explained before you decide.

Will I need surgery?

Many spine and joint problems improve without surgery. If the doctor finds signs that surgery may help, such as severe nerve compression, he will explain why and refer you to a surgeon of your choice.

Children

Can my child be seen?

Yes, with a parent or guardian present at every consultation.
