Joints and sports.
Painful knees, stiff shoulders and sports injuries can stop you walking, working or playing the way you want. At Rehabify in Bengaluru, Dr. Dharshan N A, a physiatrist with a fellowship in interventional pain management, examines how the joint moves and builds a plan that starts with exercise and, when suitable, adds medicines or image-guided injections.

Questions
Before you book.
Short answers to what people ask most about joints and sports.
Do I need surgery for knee or shoulder pain?
Most people do not. Exercise, weight management and pain control help many people. If surgery may help, the doctor will explain why and refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon of your choice.
Is a physiatrist the same as an orthopaedic surgeon?
No. A physiatrist is a doctor who treats pain and movement problems without surgery, using rehab, medicines and procedures. Both often work together, for example before and after a joint replacement.
Should I rest a painful joint?
Short rest during a flare is fine, but long rest makes joints stiffer and muscles weaker. The doctor will show you which activities are safe.
Can follow-ups be done by video?
Yes, many follow-ups and home exercise reviews can be done by video consult. The first visit for a new joint problem is usually in the clinic so the joint can be examined.
